Local Awareness October Events

"Faces of CFS" a traveling photo exhibit sponsored by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the CFIDS Association of America, will be visiting Salt Lake City this month! Mark your calendar to make sure you don't miss it:

OCTOBER 4th - 7 th

SALT LAKE CITY MAIN LIBRARY,

3rd FLOOR Gallery

Other related OFFER coordinated awareness activities:

Oct. 4th - 7:00 p.m. Kimberly  McCleary, president & CEO of the CFIDS Association of America, and the nation's top CFS Advocate, will speak at the monthly OFFER Education Meeting at the Salt Lake County Complex North Building Council Chambers ( 2001 South State Street).  Her topic is: "Advocacy: Working to Conquer CFS".

Oct. 5th - 7:00 p.m. Documentary films about CFS and FM at the SLC Main Library at 210 East 400 South.

Oct. 7th -  1:00 p.m. CFS/FM Rally on East steps of City/County Building (200 East 450 South) then "Walk-a-Block" for CFS/FMS awareness to SLC Main Library (across the street), followed by documentary films about CFS and FM at 2 p.m. at the SLC Main Library.

All of these October events are free and open to the public.  Please invite anyone with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Fibromyalgia, and caregivers, advocates, family, friends and health care professionals that you know to attend the Wednesday night and Saturday events to raise awareness in the community at large. Over 100,000 people in Utah alone suffer from one of these severe and debilitating illnesses that significantly impact families, the government, and our community.  We want to offer hope that those with CFS and FM are not forgotten and that there are many who are advocating for more support, educating health care providers for better care, and supporting research toward improved treatments and ultimately finding a cure.

OFFER will have information tables and tables with educational DVDs, t-shirts, wristbands, and water bottles for sale 30 minutes prior to each event, so plan to come early.

Lets make the Rally and Walk fun! Wear your OFFER shirts or
make your own. Make posters, decorate wheel chairs, strollers, etc. Parking on the street is free on Saturdays, but you can only stay in a parking space for the time the meter specifies (two hours, one hour, or fifteen minutes). If you are in a two hour space you would need to move to another space after two hours. There is underground parking at the City Library. The entrance is on 400 South. The first half hour is free. Each additional half hour is $.75.

The Patient Conference is set for the afternoon of Saturday, May 5th, 2007. Please go to the following link on OFFER's website to see the details regarding the Provider Conference. If you are a person with CFS or Fibromyalgia and would like your medical providers to attend this groundbreaking conference, you can print the flyer and, if you like, the actual speaker list that is on our website and give them to your providers so they can pencil in the dates. Medical providers plan their schedules months in advance, so the sooner you get this information to your providers the better chance that they can attend.
