Local Awareness October Events
"Faces of CFS" a
traveling photo exhibit sponsored by the Center for
Disease Control and Prevention and the
CFIDS Association of America, will be visiting Salt
Lake City this month! Mark your calendar to make sure you
don't miss it:

Oct. 4th - 7:00 p.m. Kimberly McCleary,
president & CEO of the
CFIDS Association of America, and the
nation's top CFS Advocate, will speak
at the monthly OFFER Education Meeting
at the Salt Lake County Complex North Building Council
Chambers (
Oct. 5th - 7:00 p.m. Documentary films
about CFS and FM at
the SLC Main Library at 210 East 400 South.
Oct. 7th - 1:00 p.m. CFS/FM Rally
on East steps of City/County Building (200 East 450
South) then
"Walk-a-Block"
for CFS/FMS awareness
to SLC Main Library (across the street),
followed by documentary films about
CFS and FM at 2 p.m.
at the SLC Main Library.
All of these October events are free and
open to the public. Please invite
anyone with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Fibromyalgia, and
caregivers, advocates, family, friends and health care
professionals that you know to attend the Wednesday night
and Saturday events to raise awareness in the community at
large. Over 100,000 people in
OFFER will have information tables and tables with
educational DVDs, t-shirts, wristbands, and water bottles
for sale 30 minutes prior to each event, so plan to come
early.
Lets make the Rally and Walk fun! Wear your OFFER shirts
or
make your own. Make posters, decorate wheel chairs,
strollers, etc. Parking on the street is free on
Saturdays, but you can only stay in a parking space for
the time the meter specifies (two hours, one hour, or
fifteen minutes). If you are in a two hour space you
would need to move to another space after two hours.
There is underground parking at the City Library. The
entrance is on 400 South. The first half hour is free.
Each additional half hour is $.75.

OFFER 2007 Conference:
OFFER's 2007
Provider and Patient Conferences have been scheduled. The
Provider Conference is set for all day
Friday, May 4th and Saturday morning May 5th, 2007. The
Patient Conference is set for the
afternoon of Saturday, May 5th, 2007. Please go to the
following link on OFFER's website to see the details regarding
the Provider Conference. If you are a person with CFS or
Fibromyalgia and would like your medical providers to attend
this groundbreaking conference, you can print the flyer and, if
you like, the actual speaker list that is on our website and
give them to your providers so they can pencil in the dates.
Medical providers plan their schedules months in advance, so the
sooner you get this information to your providers the better
chance that they can attend.

Participate in FM and CFS Research from your Home
If you would like to contribute to a global fact
bank on people with serious chronic illness, click on the link
below. The purpose of the survey is to pinpoint the factors
that distinguish those patients who achieve better health and
recovery. The "Niagara Health Study," conducted by Canada's
Brock University, is gathering the raw data via an online
"no-names-involved" survey. A report on the data and findings
from this worldwide study will be reported by mid-2007.

Meditation for Fibromyalgia
Would you
like to participate in a research study on whether
mindfulness meditation can help relieve Fibromyalgia
symptoms?

qualify to participate, you need to be:
Female
and at least 18 years old
Have a
Fibromyalgia diagnosis from a physician

relatively healthy, other than Fibromyalgia
Be able
to access the Internet from home

"Does a single 25-minute period of moderate exercise have
different effects on people with CFS and FM?"
Researchers
are seeking FM and CFS patients to volunteer for a new study
entitled, "Exercise Effects on Sensory Receptors and Cytokines
in CFS and FM." The principal investigator is Kathleen Light,
Ph.D., of the University of Utah Anesthesiology Department. The
study is part of the University's new Program for Research on
Mechanisms and Treatment of Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia
Syndromes, co-directed by Alan Light and C. Richard Chapman.
